Slips, trips and falls are among the most common hazards in the food services industry. Industry injury data shows that kitchen hands, cooks, waiters and chefs across all age categories sustain the highest number of slip, trip and fall injuries. Most of the falls occur due to oily or slippery floors resulting in fractures, sprains and bruises. One of the biggest problems for restaurant owners and chefs is maintaining their kitchen floor to prevent slip and fall accidents.

There are short term solutions available on the market such as polyurethane coatings, epoxy coatings, anti-slip tiles or anti-slip tapes but if a proper floor cleaning regime is not adhered to, these surfaces become clogged and the same slippery surface problem will reoccur.

Our kitchen staff at the South Oakleigh Club were at their wits end looking for an answer to their slippery floor issue which was an accident waiting to happen. They engaged Best Non-Slip Solutions, to advise and find an answer to this problem.

Firstly, Best Non-Slip Solutions assessed the current cleaning methods used and the resulting safety level of the flooring. They then de-greased and thoroughly cleaned the floor with a product called ‘Traction Grip’, and then, applied the Grip Guard anti-slip treatment. This rectified the immediate safety and cleanliness of the floor, but as with all commercial kitchens where there are large amounts of oil and food particles falling on the floor every day, a simple and effective schedule needed to be implemented.

Best Non-Slip Solutions designed a maintenance program that included education on floor cleaning, the importance of proper footwear and the use of ‘Traction Grip’ on a daily basis. Traction grip removes all grease, oil and food particles that have become embedded in the floor surface, leaving the anti-slip treated floor in a clean non-slip condition.

The staff have put into practice the maintenance program as instructed, and now enjoy coming to work and getting their job done, without the worry and stress of a slip and fall accident.

The Tigers Clubhouse - Hoppers Crossing

The services of Best Non-Slip Solutions were employed to alleviate an ongoing slippery floor problem in the front foyer of the Tigers Clubhouse.

The slippery tiled surface which at times is open to all weather has proved to be a difficult area to minimise the possibility of patrons slipping or falling. Numerous options had been trialled such as matting and alternative anti-slip products, none had proved satisfactory.

The change rooms in our dairy factory sometimes get cream on the floors, making them very slippery. Before the anti-slip treatment, we had two people fall over in the change rooms. One of the cleaners broke her wrist and could not work for weeks.
